James Jordan

James Jordan is a New Orleans-based vocalist known for his versatility across genres and his over four-octave range. While attending Tulane University, Jordan studied under Dr. Courtney Bryan, Ashlin Parker, Jesse McBride, and the great New Orleans vocalist, Leah Chase. These mentors imparted a respect and honor for tradition while pushing Jordan’s musical development as a vocalist and bandleader.

Upon graduating, Jordan earned the Sarah I. Nadler Memorial Award in Music, which is given in recognition of a student’s artistic and academic achievement, dedication, and outstanding performance. He was also chosen to perform the national anthem at Tulane University’s 2023 Commencement Ceremony.

Jordan has made several appearances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival from closing out Leah Chase’s 2023 performance, being a featured vocalist with his mentor and former professor Jesse McBride’s Big Band, to most recently leading his original project, James Jordan and The Situation in the WWOZ Jazz Tent in 2026. In 2023, Jordan performed in Ascona, Switzerland at the Ascona Jazz Festival with Tulane BAM Ensemble in addition to performing with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and John Boutté.

Jordan is a sought after and skilled young vocalist, who has been compared to the likes of Al Jarreau, D'Angelo, and Nancy Wilson. He has performed with several legendary New Orleans vocalists, including Ms. Stephanie Jordan, John Boutté, and New Orleans’ First Lady of Jazz, Ms. Germaine Bazzle. He has recorded with multiple local artists including Michael Sze (lead vocals on Unraveled, Remade) and Autumn Domínguez (background vocals on 27 Club).

His debut album, Reflections, released in January 2026 with his full band, James Jordan and The Situation. The 9-song project connects "almost love" to acceptance and victory through infectious horn lines, intoxicating grooves, and Jordan's rich and wide-ranging baritone tying it all together. Jordan has made multiple radio/TV appearances (WWOZ 90.7 FM and WWL TV New Orleans) where he was featured and interviewed regarding Reflections.

Currently Jordan can be found performing at various venues across the city, including but not limited to Snug Harbor, The Maple Leaf, The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, and The Barnett.
